30 Day Green Juice Fast Recipe

When I got back from my morning walk I was ready to fire up the juicer (affiliate link), so I asked Rod if he would like to join me in a glass of green juice.

Surprisingly, he said YES. So, I opted for this Beginner's Green Juice, which is a supposed to be a good one for juicing newbies like us.

Spinach is much milder than kale and the carrots and apple add sweetness, so it's much more balanced and easier on the taste buds than 100% Green juices.

We both found this Beginner Green Juice recipe agreeable. Served over ice it was light, refreshing and gently sweet. It's another one I could see making and drinking regularly for breakfast. And a great alternativeto recipes that are still just a little TOO GREEN for me, like yesterday's Green Genie!

We had some work going on in the kitchen which made pausing for lunch difficult. I had a couple handfuls of nuts which held me until 5:30 when we ate way too much popcorn at the movies. Then we headed to the Taco Guild, a restaurant we have been meaning to check out for a while, where it was Happy Hour. I couldn't resist trying a margarita and guacamole and chips, which were delicious.

This really punctuates for me the importance of getting the day off to a healthy start with a few servings of fruits and vegetables!

I hope you'll try this beginner green juice and let me know what you think. According to my calculations each serving has about 75 calories and *2 Weight Watchers Points Plus.

I only counted the calories from the apple juice and carrot juice to determine points plus. I'm not concerned about the negligible calories from the spinach, lemon and cucumber. Though after reading yesterday's post by Peter, maybe I should rethink the cucumber?

Since I had such great success with Blake Lively's Juice the other day, I decided to rev up my juicer (affiliate link) and give another celebrity juice a try as we continue our Juice Fest 30 Days of Juicing Experiment. This time it was Dr. Oz's Green Drink Juice, which I found on JuiceRecipes.com.

According to the site, Dr. Mehmet Oz drinks this green juice recipe every morning, and so does Oprah. He says, If you're feeling a little sluggish and slow on the uptake, you're not alone. Symptoms of peri-menopause include fatigue and memory problems, which may be due in part to fluctuating estrogen levels. For an energy boost that might also give you a cognitive spark, try a glass of the phytoestrogen-rich green drink I swear by.—Dr. Oz

There are many variations of Dr. Oz Energizing Green Drink floating around. Here are the ingredients listed on the Oprah website for 4 (8 ounce servings):

Beginner

Dr. Oz's Green Drink

Combine the spinach, cucumber, celery, ginger root, parsley, apples, the juice of one lime, and the juice of half a lemon in a high powered blender (affiliate link). Mix until liquid.

It depends. If you do a juice diet or juice fast which limits solid food and significantly restricts calories, you may experience weight loss, at least in the short term. The fewer calories you take in while juicing the more rapidly you'll lose weight.

But weight loss isn't necessarily the same as fat loss. It's usually water loss. And you will likely gain the weight back as soon as you go back to your normal eating pattern.

I used the recipe for Dr. Oz's Green Drink Juice from JuiceRecipes.com, which is made in a juicer (affiliate link) instead of a blender (affiliate link). I guess my taste buds are adjusting to the flavor of these healthy concoctions because I genuinely liked this green juice drink. I thought it was well balanced. Not too sweet and not too green if you know what I mean. Score another one for Dr. Oz.

If you are new to juicing, you may find this too swampy earthy tasting. If you do, try adding an extra apple or two or some pineapple to sweeten it up. Or try something a little more gentle, like this Beginner's Juice.

Instead of peeling the lemon and lime and running it through the juicer (affiliate link), I just squeezed it in at the end.
