Mexican Chocolate Brownie Pie Recipe
I always enjoy desserts that incorporate – or are inspired by – Mexican chocolate. a coarsely ground chocolate that is made with coarse sugar (in fact, the chocolate sometimes still has chunks of sugar in it when it is in tablet form) and spices, like cinnamon and cayenne pepper. The exact recipes vary from maker to maker, but they are all delicious and deliver lots of rich bittersweet chocolate and warm spices. This Mexican Chocolate Brownie Pie is inspired by the flavors in Mexican chocolate, a sweet, spicy dessert that is perfect for chocolate-lovers.
The batter starts with a generous amount of unsweetened cocoa powder, which gives the dessert a wonderful bittersweet chocolate flavor. It includes cinnamon and cayenne pepper, along with vanilla and almond extracts, for just the right amount of spice to evoke Mexican chocolate. I usually fold in a generous amount of dark chocolate chunks, leaving a few reserved to sprinkle on top for visual appeal. If I happen to have a tablet of Mexican chocolate in my kitchen, I will chop up some and add a handful of that to the batter, as well. Either way, everything comes together very easily and can be ready to go into the oven in less time than it takes to preheat!

The pie has a rich chocolate base that is reminiscent of classic brownies, but is a bit more tender and not quite as dense as your typical brownie recipe is. After each bite you’ll taste the heat of the cinnamon and cayenne – both of which will leave you wanting a second bite! While it could be baked into squares, baking it in a pie dish elevates the dish slightly and turns it into a dessert that is an excellent choice for entertaining. The brownies can be served at room temperature or slightly warm, topped with vanilla ice cream.
Tips For Baking With Chocolate

In a medium bowl, whisk together melted butter, sugar, eggs, vanilla extract and almond extract until smooth. Add in flour mixture and whisk until the batter comes together, then stir in 1/2 cup chocolate chunks (and the Mexican chocolate, if using).
Allow pie to cool to room temperature before slicing. Heat each slice for a few seconds in the microwave to warm it before serving.Mexican Chocolate Cream Pie is made with a graham cracker and almond crust filled with Mexican chocolate cream filling and topped with fresh whipped cream. This Mexican Chocolate Pie recipe is from the famous Elote Cafe in Sedona Arizona.
Mexican Hot Chocolate Pie
I have been so excited to share this recipe with you! My husband and I made a road trip to Sedona Arizona for a little getaway. There is a restaurant called Elote Cafe that is reservations only because it is always packed. They are known for their Mexican Chocolate Pie and of course, we had to try it! It was so decadent, rich, and creamy. I searched for the recipe, found it, made it, and now I am sharing it with you!
I made a few changes to the Elote Cafe Mexican Chocolate Pie by adding a little more sweetness. I still wanted it to take sinfully rich but add a touch more sugar to give it that perfect balance.
This Mexican Chocolate Cream Pie starts off with a homemade almond and graham cracker crust. The chocolate filling is made with melted chocolate, heavy cream, and a touch of cinnamon. The chocolate pie is topped with handcrafted whipped cream and drizzled with caramel or dulce de leche.

. It has a grainy texture compared to normal chocolate. Sometimes chilies are added for more spice but it definitely has more warmth because of the cinnamon.

I would suggest using high-quality chocolate bars, if at all possible. I use the Trader Joe’s Pound Plus Bar. You can also use semi-sweet chocolate chips.
I have made many chocolate pies in my days from the Classic Chocolate Cream Pie to the German Chocolate Pie with a Coconut Pecan Topping to a Chocolate French Silk Pie. This is a unique take on a chocolate cream pie because of the addition of warm cinnamon and the focus on the star ingredient — chocolate.

Once y’all see the recipe for this triple chocolate brownie pie, you’ll probably think “oh, that’s just too simple.” Some folks might even think it is so simple that it shouldn’t even be called a recipe, but I think most of y’all will be more in my mindset of, “oh, that is so simple, it’s wonderful!”

The only ingredients you need to make fudge brownie pie are a store-bought pie shell, a boxed brownie mix (and the corresponding ingredients), and semi-sweet chocolate chips. Yep, that’s it. We simply combine the brownie batter and chocolate chips, add them to the pie crust, and bake.
My chocolate brownie pie recipe brings together the best of both desserts. You get a moist and fudgy chocolate brownie overflowing with chocolate chips and a flaky pie crust. What could be better than that? Oh, I know… serving it with some chocolate sauce and a scoop of vanilla ice cream, of course. If you like brownies and pies or just chocolate in general, you’re going to love this recipe. Ready to give it a go?
You’re also going to need whatever ingredients that brownie mix calls for so take a gander at the back and make sure you have that on hand. It’s usually just a bit of oil, an egg, and some water (which I usually substitute for milk but either way works fine).

Add the chocolate mixture into the pie crust but make sure you have a good taste test of that brownie filling first 😉.
Top with vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce to add the third layer of chocolate and officially make it a triple chocolate brownie pie.
I love to serve a slice of fudge brownie pie with either vanilla ice cream or whipped cream (here’s my homemade recipe) and hot fudge sauce or chocolate syrup. If you’re not adding nuts to the brownie batter, you can also sprinkle some on top of the pie before serving or add a side of sliced fresh strawberries. Another more simple serving suggestion is a quick dusting of powdered sugar.
